What are Dr. Simona’s credentials?

Dr. Simona Scurtu is an Ontario-Licensed Naturopathic Doctor, Neurology Fellow through the
American Association of Restorative Medicine, and Functional Medicine Practitioner through
Functional Medicine University. She holds a pharmaceutical prescription license and
certifications in intravenous micronutrient therapy, advanced trigger point injection techniques,
and acupuncture.

Is this service online or in person?

Clinic appointments with Dr. Simona are available at her Toronto or Ajax locations, and virtual
appointments are also available.

What are the DUTCH and GI-MAP tests?

The DUTCH test is a comprehensive urine hormone panel used to asses hormone inbalance in all stages of reproduction [from pre-menopause to post-menopause].

The GI-MAP is a stool test to evaluate microbiome and gut health. These are 2 of the several advanced functional medicine lab tests that may be ordered
to better understand what’s driving your symptoms.

What is the Organic Acids Test (OAT)?

Organic acids are products of metabolic pathways in the body. Evaluation of these
downstream metabolites provides insight into important systems in the body related to
mitochondrial function, gut health, neurotransmitter status, indicators of detoxification and
nutritional status. This makes organic acids testing a valuable tool in assessing functional need
for essential nutrients, diet modification, antioxidant protection, detoxification and other
therapies.

What is genomics analysis?

This is not a genetic test but rather an analysis of slight variations in your genes called single
nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Some SNPs increase the need for dietary nutrients or alter
metabolic pathways, like those related to detoxification. The information from this analysis
helps us be even more specific with your treatment.

Is this covered by insurance?

Some of the tests and services may be covered by insurance, depending on your extended
